Set up and troubleshoot reminders

Get a reminder at each dose time, act on it from the notification, and know why one didn’t arrive.

Before you begin

Keel schedules reminders as local notifications on your phone from your own routines; iOS delivers them, and delivery never goes through a server. Keel never asks for permission at launch; it asks in context.

A reminder says only when a dose is due: the routine name (or "Routine due" with private reminders) and "Due at ‹time›" or "Due today — any time".

Keel tracks. It never advises. A reminder restates the schedule you set — when a dose is due — and nothing about what or how much.

Steps

1. Allow notifications when Keel asks: in onboarding tap Enable reminders (or Not now, which never blocks setup); on Today tap Turn on on the Turn on reminders notice.
2. In the routine form, under Reminders, keep Remind me on.
3. For a timed dose, set Notify: At dose time, 5 / 15 / 30 minutes early, or 1 hour early. An early reminder still states the real due time.
4. Optional: turn on Follow up if not logged and set After N min (5 to 240).
5. Any-time doses are scheduled for 9 in the morning of their day — the form says "Any-time doses notify when their day arrives."
6. Act from the notification: Done logs the dose with the same Done-or-Late rule as in the app; Skip records a skip; Snooze moves the dose by the routine’s first snooze length (15 minutes by default); the button appears on every reminder but does nothing for an any-time dose.
7. Choose how much the lock screen shows: Settings › Notifications › Reminder detail — "Show routine name" or "Show "Routine due" only"; it "Takes effect as upcoming reminders are rescheduled."

What you’ll see

Keel plans doses from the start of today for 7 days and rebuilds the pending reminders when the schedule refreshes — on opening Today, after a save, after a successful Done, Skip or Snooze from a notification, and by an iOS background refresh when iOS grants one.

If a notification action fails to record, Keel tries to post a replacement notification — "That didn’t record" — "The dose is still marked as due. Open Keel to log it." A snoozed dose is scheduled again for the end of the snooze, without an early lead — unless you also moved it with Move to…, which takes precedence.

Notes and troubleshooting

• No reminders at all? Today shows Reminders can’t be delivered when notifications are off for Keel in iOS Settings; tap Open Settings. Insights › Attention says "Reminders are off" too.
• A paused, completed or archived routine reminds nothing; a dose already logged, skipped or missed doesn’t remind.
• At most 58 dose reminders are pending at once (primaries and follow-ups, in order of dose time); a very dense week can run past that until the next refresh.
• Settings › Notifications adds "Some upcoming reminders couldn’t be scheduled. They’ll be retried automatically as your schedule updates." when the last refresh had failures.
• A Focus mode that silences Keel silences these reminders; Keel does not mark them time-sensitive.
• Snooze lengths are the routine’s snooze options — 15, 30 and 60 minutes by default; the app has no setting to change them and no quiet hours.
• With an account, reminder settings sync with the routine; delivery stays local to each phone.
